Consider Our Vantage Point
Time is a relative thing, and we reference our world through the 24 hour clock that our human bodies have given us. When you look at the world around you, there are organisms that transcend time as we know it and exist on an entirely different timeline. Take a moment to consider that there are trees on this planet that were around when we thought Earth was the center of the universe.
There are places deep below the oceans that have yet to feel the change of human existence on this planet. From other planets, the view of earth is probably much the same today as it was 500 years ago. But we’ve seen a rapturous growth in what it means to be human. What’s happening just below the earth’s atmosphere on the surface of our planet - just 0.47% of the total mass of the earth - may not be happening anywhere else in the universe.
From a cosmic perspective, all of human culture is zooming across earth’s surface in the blink of an eye. But you can also have a moment of love, or stillness, or meditation that feels like time is stretched and slowed.
Try to feel like today is special simply because you exist, and get to enjoy it. But also feel connected across time to the things that have been here long before you, and the things that will be here long after you are gone, all of which are here together, today.
